Service

Mathematics extends beyond the classroom and beyond the college setting. I am passionate about and feel a special responsibility to encourage young mathematicians and those exploring mathematics regardless of the setting we meet in, just as so many pivotal role models have done for me. Here are some ways I have already done so and plan to continue to do so.

Ways I've Gotten Involved

Sonia Kovalevsky Day:

The University of Iowa Mathematics Department organizes an annual Sonia Kovalevsky High School Mathematics Day for high-school aged women, their parents or guardians, and their teachers. The day-long program includes workshops, interactive talks, math related games and panels of professionals with math-related jobs. Sonia Kovalevsky Day is an opportunity for young women to engage in a day of networking, mentoring, and fun!

More information can be found at the University of Iowa SK Day webpage.

I helped organize SK Day in 2023 and volunteered at SK Day in 2024.

Association for Women Student Chapter

The Association for Women in Mathematics  (AWM) is a national organization whose purpose "is to create a community in which women and girls can thrive in their mathematical endeavors, and to promote equitable opportunity and treatment of women and others of marginalized genders and gender identities across the mathematical sciences."

The University of Iowa Student Chapter of the AWM is being founded to create a community that empower minorities that have been marginalized due to their race and gender identities in the mathematical sciences. We wish to develop and grow our professional being.

I currently serve as the chapter's treasurer.

Directed Reading Program

The Directed Reading Program is an initiative to pair undergraduate students with graduate student mentors to work on independent study projects in the field of mathematics. The graduate student will mentor the undergraduate student and guide the student through a topic decided by the undergraduate, the graduate, or both. This program is informal and is motivated by the individuals participating in it. Among other goals, this program seeks to involve undergraduates in the larger mathematical community, foster independent learning strategies, and develop mathematical communication skills.

I am currently mentoring an undergraduate student in Topological Data Analysis (TDA).

Math Graduate Board

The University of Iowa Math Graduate Board (MGB) exists to provide a forum for departmental discourse, to organize departmental events, and to generally enrich the graduate mathematics experience at the University of Iowa. It is an official university student organization established and led entirely by math graduate students.

I currently serve as the General Liaison. In this role, I serve as a liaison between the mathematics student body, Mathematics faculty, and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I also step in to mediate discourse and find solutions when needed with the purpose of bettering the graduate student experience.

Previously I have served on the travel funding committee.
